Maverick is our baby! He is a 2 1/2 year old boxer that has been our boy since he was 8 weeks old! We love him so much! He is so smart too! We have taught him how to sit and shake, high five and play dead when we tell him "bang bang"! He has taught us responsibility and drained our wallets at times! When we first got him, it was such a challenge to potty train him because neither of us knew what we were doing, but with a lot of persistence, he learned and we were so proud! Next challenge...his first allergic reaction! We took him for his first round of shots and he swelled up like a balloon! He had hives and passed out. We rushed him to Pets Mart and they pumped him with fluids and Benadryl, then he was good to go! Next challenge, he had a rare growth on his head, so we had to get it removed. He got stitches and all! Next challenge, another allergic reaction! This time, he had a random reaction to carpet cleaner Josh used at his apartment in college! After much Benadryl and some TLC, he was good as new! Next challenge, his first fight! :( This made his mama very sad! We couldn't find him late one night to put him up in my parent's garage. After driving around and calling for him for almost an hour, we decided he knew his way home, so we gave up. The next morning, he was in the garage, scratched up and bleeding! His bone was showing on his right leg. A vets visit, a good cleaning, pain meds, antibiotics, and a $200 doctor's bill later, we were able to take him home. He moped around for a few days, but then he was back to his old playful self! The vet assumed he had probably gotten into a fight with a coyote, so we were grateful he made it out alive! Although, we've spent a lot of money on him and have worried a lot too, it has all been worth it! He's such a good boy and has taught us a lot about responsibility and working together to get him well. I think God is preparing us for crazy kids! ;) Maverick will always be our first born!
